July 4th is BACK in McMinnville

I hope that by now you have heard there will be a big party for July 4th here in McMinnville.  Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum has graciously agreed to host the venue at their site.  Jon Gross, Chamber committee chair and Board Vice Chair, wanted to make sure this program was reminiscent of July 4ths of the past while embracing who we are as a community today. “I have fond memories of my childhood staking out a spot on the ground, having Barbecue, playing catch, and enjoying community while waiting for the sun to set.  Then the fireworks started and the show was so close you felt like you could touch them.  I want that same experience for my family and I’m glad that it is going to happen this year.”

The details are simple: Celebrate Mac July 4th Spectacular is on July 4th at Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum.  Parking will be detailed on the grounds of the museum and around town for shuttle drop off spots (We highly encourage you to RIDE THE SHUTTLE).  The museum will be open all evening, starting at 5pm entrance will only be $5 for full museum entrance (that gets you into BOTH museums!) and closing about 9pm as dusk settles.

Beyond that, there will be a huge community-gathering place for festival favorite food items for sale, merchant booths, and community program booths, family fun entertainment booths, and main stage.  On the main stage, at dusk, the American Legion will lead the posting of the colors and at about 9:30 pm we will begin the firework show.

Shuttles

First Student has graciously offered a shuttle transportation service again to get guests to and from the event location with ease. Pick up and drop off by shuttle is available at various locations around town (see below for a list of sites). Call (503) 519-2078 to request a ride. Shuttle drop-offs will run until the last guest is dropped off.

St James Church (SE 1st) shuttle begins @ 5PM
Grain Station (8th and Alpine) shuttle begins @ 4PM
City Hall (First St and Cowls) shuttle begins @ 4PM
City Parking Structure (5th and Evans) shuttle begins @ 4PM
Chemeketa Community College – Yamhill Valley Campus (Norton Lane) shuttle begins @ 4PM

Fireworks

Speaking of fireworks, Western Display Fireworks is the selected vendor for the fireworks show.  We are working closely with them to bring an amazing show to the area, and are told that our show is going to be bigger than anything they have been hired to produce in the last 10 years (even bigger than Portland!).  Last year the show lasted just at 30 minutes and was pretty memorable.  This year we’ve made a couple changes to the set up, ordered some BIGGER firework mortars, and expect the show to last 35 – 40 minutes!

Thank You Sponsors!

We still need help funding this all inclusive community event. July 4 Sponsorship 2016.  This event is not set up as a fundraiser for the Chamber or any other organization.  This event is all about community so every dollar gathered is spent to operate the event or saved for next year.  The Chamber is the fiscal sponsor this year and will invoice you for your sponsorship.

Finally, we would be remiss if we did not publicly thank Paul Kuehne of Creekside Valley Farms for allowing us access over his crops for the show. His partnership is a big part of making this event possible.

We look forward to seeing you at this free community-centered event July 4th.
