What exactly is Lemonade Day McMinnville?

Why Lemonade Day? Here is a quick video to help explain what this program is all about.

“I did it to earn money. I liked serving lemonade to the customers. I wanted to start my own business. I was excited to work and make some money…My stand was amazingly successful. It was a lot of fun and the people loved buying lemonade from me. I ended up beating all my goals. The customers really enjoyed getting their lemonade from my stand. I might want to start another business like a cookie stand. Maybe a sucker stand. I’m excited for doing it all again but better next year.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Feeling a little confused?  We think we’ve got your answers here.  If you don’t see the answer you’re looking for please email rpope with your question.

What is Lemonade Day?

Lemonade Day is a nation-wide event that teaches kids the skills they need to be successful in life. Kids learn to set goals, develop a business plan, establish a budget, seek investors, provide customer service, save for the future, and give back to the community. Lemonade Day is the perfect opportunity for a community to show kids they care and train the next generation of entrepreneurs through a free, fun, engaging, and empowering activity. Last year, Lemonade Day impacted more than 1,000 children in Salem/Keizer with such success we were given the opportunity to expand to McMinnville.

When is Lemonade Day?

Lemonade Day will take place in McMinnville on May 6th, 2017.  On that day every registered youth entrepreneur has a chance to put up their stand, sell their goods, and experience the life of an entrepreneur!

Who can participate?

Youth of all ages, from Kindergarten through high school, can register for an official Lemonade Day stand. Adults are needed to participate as mentors, business partners, and volunteers. In addition, community support from schools, churches, businesses, and youth organizations is essential to the success of Lemonade Day.

How does it work?

Each child that registers for Lemonade Day receives a bright, yellow satchel backpack with an informational workbook for the child and another for a responsible adult/business partner. The workbooks outline the steps needed to start a business, from setting a goal, creating a business plan, forming a budget and finding an investor, to saving money and donating a portion back to their community.

How does a child register?

Beginning now, a child can register by completing a printed application through participating partners such as schools or youth organizations. Youth can also register online at: http://McMinnville.LemonadeDay.org (preferred).

If we register are we committed to having a stand?

Just like any startup business you may find that planning the Lemonade Stand clarifies that you’re not ready.  That’s okay!  Better to start and determine now isn’t the right time than just wing it and have a terrible experience.  If you register and decide not to have a stand on May 6th, that is your choice and you do not owe anything.  We’re just glad that you started the process.

What do children learn?

The objective of Lemonade Day is to teach youth how to start and run their own lemonade business. Children learn the entrepreneurial skills necessary to be successful in the future and become contributing members of their communities. The best part of the program for kids is that after covering their expenses and paying back their investors, they can keep what they earn. With this in mind, children are encouraged to open a youth savings account so their profits can continue to grow as well as give a portion of their earnings to charity.

Who can get involved and how?

Anyone and everyone can be involved in Lemonade Day. Young entrepreneurs with lemonade stands need mentors, investors, employees and customers! Sponsors and volunteers are also needed to make Lemonade Day a success. All money raised through local donations and sponsorship’s is used directly to support Lemonade Day in your city. To get involved, please contact your local Lemonade Day website at http://McMinnville.LemonadeDay.org.
