McMinnville Economic Development Partnership announced that applications are now open for the award-winning McMinnville WORKS and
Career Bound) Internship Programs for the summer of 2021. Currently with 10 participating host sites and 16 available positions, there is a wide range of internship opportunities for applicants exploring career development in the McMinnville area.

Entering its ninth year, the McMinnville WORKS Internship Program connects local businesses and organizations to talented young collegiate professionals through project-based internship opportunities. Internships are 9+ weeks, full-time, paid, and held during the summer. MEDP organizes the program by identifying local businesses that want to host interns, advertising positions to local colleges and young professionals, collecting and processing applications, and creating summer professional development workshops for interns that cover a variety of topics ranging from personal finance to project management.

Entering its third year, the Career Bound Program connects graduating high school seniors from Yamhill County with full-time local summer positions and internships at companies throughout the surrounding community. The program specifically targets students who do not plan to attend 4-year colleges directly after high school, providing them a direct professional work opportunity. This program includes a pre-employment training as well as peer networking.

Applicants for either opportunity are able to indicate areas of interest on their application. This year available internship positions cover a wide range of opportunities including: marketing and social media, project management, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, human resources, graphic
design, event management, fabrication, information technology (IT), programming, lab tech, administrative, and more.

Participating host sites include the City of McMinnville (Administration, Engineering, and Wastewater Services Departments), HBF International, MEDP, Pegasus Equestrian Development, Precision Integrated Programs, Solid Form Fabrication, SwedeMom Center of Giving, Woodworth Contrarian Advisors.
Additional local companies are being added daily. If your business is interested in participating, please fill out the interest form at  www.mcminnvillebusiness.com/host-site-application

During the 2020 Summer Program, MEDP connected nine area businesses with fourteen young professionals, who were able to complete projects and seamlessly adapt to Covid related restrictions and workplace changes many host sites were facing this past year. McMinnville WORKS Intern Shannon Stoller said “ The experience I had, brought me more confidence in my professional and personal development, especially now as a Linfield Senior. I learned a lot through my role, particularly getting scheduling and moderating online virtual events, project management and developing my writing skills. It was wonderful to build professional connections around the McMinnville community! “

Career Bound Intern at NW Rapid Mfg., Kyle Bertagna said of the Career Bound program for recent high school graduates exploring career opportunities in the traded skills: “This program has made me realize that local companies hire based on who you are as a person, not necessarily the degree you have, which is quite an eye opener. Career Bound as a whole has been just that: an eye opener.”

MEDP’s workforce programs are part of our initiative to ‘grow our own’ in support of our local businesses and industries and their workforce needs. Both programs are industry driven and managed by MEDP.

The application is open from January 6 to February 21, 2021.
