Oregonians looking to add meaning to the holidays need look no further than a local credit union. Oregon State Credit Union, headquartered in Corvallis, is selling Santa Dollar stocking stuffers through Dec. 23 to help raise money for local Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals. The funds raised from the sale of Santa Dollars will be donated to the hospitals.

“This is a fun way to support the important work these hospitals do,” said credit union President and CEO Richard Hein. “Many people have a child or know someone whose child has received care at a children’s hospital. Every minute, 62 children go to a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital for treatment. We’re incredibly lucky to have these hospitals in our area, and they deserve our support.”

According to the 2021 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Member Hospital Census Survey, CMN hospitals treat 2,827 children for surgeries and another 1,718 for cancer every day. CMN member hospitals in the United States provide about $3.4 billion in charity care to sick children each year.

The stocking stuffer comes in a special Santa Dollars envelope. Tucked inside the envelope is a bill bearing the face of Santa on a removable sticker. The sticker covers the face on the bill and must be removed before spending. “Santa Dollars can be purchased in any denomination,” Hein added. “You don’t need to be a member of the credit union to purchase them to help kids.”

Each Santa Dollar costs $2, plus the value of the bill. If you purchase a $5 Santa Dollar, you would pay face value for the bill ($5) and $2 for the sticker and envelope. The $2 will be donated to regional Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
Santa Dollars can be purchased at any of the credit union’s 15 branches in the Willamette Valley and central coast. Over the last five years, Oregon State Credit Union holiday fundraisers have raised nearly $19,000 for CU4Kids.

Oregon State Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit credit union. Membership is open to anyone who lives or works in one of 24 western and central Oregon counties. Additional information about Oregon State Credit Union is available at oregonstatecu.com.
